Organic contamination on glass fibres can cause reduced transmission rates and inconsistent performance. Despite attempts to keep the optical path clean, organic contaminants can originate from outgassing of plastics, adhesive bleed-out, fingerprints etc. Plasma can break up these surface contaminants, releasing them as inert and volatile gases.
